Forest Minister Binoy Viswam has said the forests of the State will be made ‘Ganja’ (Cannabis sativa) free by conducting raids on illegal cultivation of this killer plant.

Speaking to media persons at Muttikulnagara near here on Monday the Minister said that raids will be conducted at Walayar forest in the first week of February and also in Attappady forests to destroy the illegal cultivation of Ganja. The raids will be a joint operation of the Departments of Forest, Excise and Police.

The Minister said that in Nelliampathy forest area, eco-tourism will be implemented without affecting the environment of the area.

He said that some restrictions were brought in Nelliampathy as it is required to regulate uncontrolled tourism in this sensitive forest area.
