Infectious diseases claimed 11 more lives in the State on Monday even as the government announced that prevention and control activities were being intensified.
The official disease surveillance and monitoring network of the Health Department (IDSP cell) reported six suspected dengue deaths in the State on Monday, four in Palakkad and two in Thiruvananthapuram.
Two suspected H1N1 deaths were reported from Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is suspected to have claimed two lives in Kozhikode and Thrissur, while one fever death was reported in the capital district. A total of 22,896 persons sought treatment for viral fever in various outpatient clinics in government hospitals in the State on Monday. Of these, 711 are suspected to be dengue.
Monitoring cells
The number of confirmed dengue cases on Monday is 183, out of which 89 is in Thiruvananthapuram. The total number of confirmed dengue cases reported till date this year now stands at 7,165, with 45 suspected deaths and 13 confirmed ones. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has announced the setting up of monitoring cells in all districts to coordinate fever prevention and control activities and to create general awareness of infectious diseases among the public.
Complaints
The monitoring cells will function round the clock and the public could contact to file complaints regarding any issues they may face in hospitals, including medicine shortage, sanitation issues in hospitals or public places.
At the State level, the public can inform through the toll free number of Health Department’s helpline, Disha (1056 or 0471-22552056). Or they can contact the district numbers provided.
The complaints will be handed over to a nodal officer in each panchayat and the remedial measures taken will be reported to the district and State authorities and the office of the Health Minister.
