The District Congress Committee (DCC) office here was vandalised by unidentified miscreants in the early hours of Friday.

The name board of the office, campaign hoardings, and some items of furniture at the DCC office were damaged, according to the Congress leadership here. DCC president Satheesan Pacheni said the possibility of a plan behind the attack could not be ruled out.

He said the incident could be a handiwork of some groups who wanted to destroy peace in the district. He urged the police to take stringent action against the culprits behind the incident.

Leaders including CPI(M) district unit secretary P. Jayarajan, party leaders K.K. Ragesh, MP, and M. Prakashan, and Indian Union Muslim League leader V.K. Abdul Khader Maulavi, visited the office.

Mr. Jayarajan said his party could never approve of attacks on party offices. He demanded that the police nab the culprits.
