District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Surendran has removed general secretary V. Shahul Hameed from his post as a disciplinary action for the latter’s public statement against the DCC at a press conference last week.

The removal of Mr. Hameed, who is loyal to the ‘A’ group of the party in the district, comes in the wake of the recent outbreak of factional feud within the district unit of the Congress over the disbanding of the director board of the Pallikkunnu Cooperative Bank.

Mr. Surendran here on Wednesday informed that Mr. Hameed was removed from the post of DCC general secretary for his statements at the press meet. The rift had been reflected in the scenes of confrontation between leaders of the rival camps in the party district unit at the one-to-one meeting chaired by All India Congress Committee general secretary Mukul Wasnik on Tuesday. The rival leaders had engaged in heated exchanges in the presence of the AICC general secretary, sources said.
