With a view to creating the much-needed awareness regarding road safety among the younger generation, the City police organised a painting competition for schoolchildren at Nehru Park here on Tuesday.

The programme, Varnam-2016, was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner S. Satheesh Bino. It was organised as part of the Subhayatra road safety programme of the State Police and the Sanchara-2016 traffic rules awareness programme of the City police, Dr. Bino said.

He said that this was one of the best ways to teach students on the importance of road safety.

The topic of the competition was ‘Horrors of road accidents.’

Traffic Assistant Nodal Officer H. Shahnavas said that the competition was held in four categories — lower primary, upper primary, high school, and higher secondary school students.

A total of 350 students from various schools in the city participated.
