Kurian Mathew Vayalumkal, Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) of Papua New Guinea and titular Archbishop of Ratiaria, will be consecrated as Archbishop here on July 25, a press note from the Archeparchy of Kottayam has said.
Msgr. Kurian Mathew has been with the diplomatic corps of the Vatican since 1998 and has been functioning as Apostolic Nuncio of Papua New Guinea since May 3.
He had served abroad
Born to M.C. Mathai and Annamma Mathai of Vayalumkal House, Neendoor; the 46-year-old Vatican diplomat has served in Korea, Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, Hungary, and Egypt earlier.
He had also functioned as special envoy in Haiti following an earthquake as a special emissary to support the humanitarian work taken up by the Vatican.
The consecration ceremony will commence by 2 p.m. on July 25.
Chief celebrant
Archbishop Mathew Moolekkat of the Knanaya Archeparchy of Kottayam will be the chief celebrant on the occasion.
In addition to representatives from sister churches, members of the Vatican diplomatic corps in India will also participate in the ceremony.
