Reiterating his party’s demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in connection with the solar scam, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the questioning of Mr. Chandy in the case indicates evidence to link him in the sensational case.
In view of the latest development, Mr. Chandy should quit and be prepared to face a judicial probe, Mr. Vijayan told reporters here on Thursday.
The CPI(M) leader was here to attend a two-day meeting of the party’s district committee.
The police had tried to exempt Mr. Chandy from questioning as part of a tailored script prepared earlier. Any official investigating a case linking the Chief Minister’s Office would naturally show reluctance to question him, Mr. Vijayan argued.
The disclosure by the Advocate General that Mr. Chandy was questioned in the case amply made his tacit role in the scam clear, he alleged adding that the Left Democratic Front’s charge that Mr. Chandy had been linked to the scam was now vindicated.
The district committee was convened to gear up the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Party Central committee members P. Karunakaran, MP, and A. Vijayaraghavan and State committee member A. K. Balan were among those who attended the meeting.
Mr. Vijayan later visited the residence of slain party worker M.B. Balakrishnan, who was stabbed by allegedly Congress workers at Bare, near Uduma, on the night of September 16, and consoled the bereaved family.
