Chandy should go: Pannian

August 10, 2013 06:51 pm | Updated 06:51 pm IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Pannian Ravindran has said the Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s proposed agitation is for the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and not for toppling the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

The CPI leader was inaugurating the 18th foundation day celebrations of the Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Federation at the conference hall of the PWD Rest House in Thiruvalla on Saturday afternoon.

He alleged that Mr. Chandy was a ‘‘tainted’’ Chief Minister and hence he should not be permitted to continue in office. Mr. Ravindran alleged that the UDF government was trying to rule the State after making the people hostage which could not be permitted at any cost.

He said the LDF agitation in front of the Secretariat from Monday would be a strong one and the government would find it difficult to defeat the people’s power even by deploying Central forces.

Mr. Chandy was trying to make a last attempt to cling on to power and his threat to suppress the mass movement using Central forces was part of this, he said.

B. Bahuleyan, federation State president, presided over the meeting.
