The Union government’s claim that the proposed ₹7-lakh crore Bharat Mata Hitech Road project would generate 14 lakh employment opportunities was mere rhetoric, Communist Party of India State secretary Kanam Rajendran has said.

He was addressing a reception accorded to the Janajagratha Yatra by Left Democratic Front workers in Adoor on Thursday.

He said the proposed hitech road project would require only 29% mandays. Prime Minister Narendra Modi who came to power promising employment for one crore youths, could provide hardly 35,600 jobs during the past three years, he alleged.

Mr. Rajendran said unrest in universities across the country suggested that the youths had already distanced themselves from Mr. Modi.

“Peasants are on the war path in most of the States, protesting against the anti-farmer policies of the Modi government. The working class too are dejected owing to the anti-labour reforms of the Centre. Even the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, trade union arm of the Bharatiya Janata Party, appeared to be against the Modi government’s labour policy,” he alleged.

The LDF campaign was accorded rousing reception at Adoor, Konni, Pathanamthitta, Ranni, Thiruvalla, and Mallappally.

Chittayam Gopakumar, MLA; A.P.Jayan, CPI district secretary; Alex Kannamala, LDF district convener; and others received the yatra at Adoor.

A.Vijayaraghavan, George Thomas, Uzhamalackal Venugopal, P.M.Mathew, all members of the yatra, addressed public meetings at taluk headquarters in the district.
