The Calicut University campus on Thursday witnessed a festival of protests, marking the culmination of a long agitation by a group of students seeking justice in a dispute over admissions to student hostels.

The day-long protest titled Festival of Resistance marked the augmentation of the campus community’s struggle against the policies followed by the university administration led by Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam.

It turned out to be a festival in all sense when students sang and danced, painted and enacted plays. Artistes from various fields gathered on the campus registering solidarity with the students.

Flash mob

Film-maker Amal Neerad inaugurated the festivities by releasing colour balloons. Students created a flash mob apart from performing jazz and fusion shows.

A ‘chendamelam’ of protest was also staged on the campus. Programmes of different hues were staged at five venues on the campus. When a group painted in protest, another group enacted plays, and another recited poems.

Teachers and employees on the campus lent their support to the students. The memos issued to the teachers and employees by the Vice Chancellor were on display. Another struggle corner titled Capitol screened films.

Gazal singer Shahabas Aman conducted a music concert.
