The district administration has introduced biometric punching system for employees attached to the Revenue Department at the Collectorate here from Monday.

District Collector R. Girija inaugurated the new punching system, which has replaced the old card-based punching system, on Monday.

A total of 133 Revenue Department staff at the Collectorate, including the District Collector, have to register their attendance through the new biometric punching system. Two punching machines have been installed at the Collectorate building.

Ms. Girija said steps would be taken to bring all offices functioning at the Collectorate under the biometric punching system.

She said a proposal would be submitted to the government for introducing the system at all government offices in the district.

With the new punching system in place, the computers at the offices of the District Collector, Additional District Magistrate, and the Husur tahsildar will simultaneously receive the attendance details of the employees at the Collectorate.

As per the new system, punch-in between 10.10 a.m. and 11 a.m. will be considered as ‘late’ and three ‘late’ arrivals will be treated as one leave. Punch-in after 11 a.m. will be treated as half-day leave.

K. Divakaran Nair, ADM; P.T. Abraham. N. Jayasree, and Ajanthakumari, Deputy Collectors, were present.
