Social activist Aswathy of the NGO Jwala foundation on Saturday denied the allegations that she had collected funds in the name of Liga Skromane.

Addressing a press conference with Liga’s sister Ilze Skromane, she said she was ready to face any inquiry into the matter. Anilkumar, a Kovalam-based individual, lodged a complaint accusing Aswathy of collecting ₹3.8 lakh for searching for Liga. “Today, I got a call from the commissioner’s office asking me to be present in the Special Branch for investigation. This is the first time I face such an allegation,” said Ms. Aswathy.

Ilze said the complainant should have checked with her before going ahead with the complaint.

“She has helped us, been with us even late at night. Aswathy had said we tried to meet the Chief Minister, but we couldn’t. She was not aware that the information that we were trying to meet him had not reached the CM. Now she is aware of it and we apologise that such a mistake happened. It is human to make such mistakes,” said Ilze.

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala condemned the police investigation against Aswathy. The State is trying to silence her by foisting a case on her,” he said.
