March 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:04 am IST - KATTAPPANA:

The hartal called by the LDF on Saturday was peaceful and total in Idukki district. Service buses, including the KSRTC, did not ply on the road and educational institutions remained closed. In Munnar, hartal supporters held demonstration in the morning and private vehicles and taxis were blocked. Shops and business establishments remained closed. However, a few tourist taxis plied on the road in the afternoon.

At Thodupuzha and Kumili, only a few private vehicles plied on the road. Buses from Tamil Nadu conducted services only till Kumili and the passengers were left stranded. In the estate areas of Vandanmedu, vehicles carrying labourers from Tamil Nadu did not conduct services.
