Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) of Tirur K.M. Saidali has begun an inquiry into a complaint filed by Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb about the failure of a police officer in completing his son’s passport verification.
The Minister’s complaint followed a report by the civil police officer of the Parappanangadi police station responsible for passport verification. The police report had mentioned that Mr. Rabb’s son Izas Naha was not eligible for passport as he had not been residing at Parappanangadi for the past three years.
The Minister’s family said Mr. Naha was doing an MBA programme in Hyderabad and had come home for police verification. The family said the police refused to come home for verification even after having been informed of Mr. Naha’s availability.
A police officer attached to the Parappanangadi police station said the report was prepared as per the guidelines. He said a positive report could not be given about a person who was not present in a given address for a long period.
Infuriated by the police action, Mr. Rabb petitioned the Director General of Police requesting him to look into the issue and take action against those responsible.
Superintendent of Police Manju Nath has asked for a report from the Tirur Dy.SP after investigating the matter. The Dy.SP said it was too early to say what happened.
