Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari on Monday said the party would not decide on a leadership change in Karnataka under pressure.
Mr. Gadkari was responding to questions on former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's demands to be reinstated after the Karnataka High Court recently quashed a portion of the Lokayukta report accusing him of corruption in grant of mining leases in favour of two companies and the sanction given by the Governor to prosecute him based on the report.
Mr. Yeddyurappa had quit last year following the report.
Mr. Gadkari said that while the party would consider a leadership change in Karnataka, its central parliamentary board had yet not met to discuss this due to the recent elections.
The BJP was in touch with Mr. Yeddyurappa and he would not do anything which went against the party, Mr. Gadkari said. “He should remain calm and patient in the meanwhile,” he advised.
