Water purification plant set up

The Health Department has installed a drinking water purification plant at Karanji-Bujurg village in Aurad taluk where incidence of gastroenteritis was reported earlier this year.

The water purification plant and a water tank inside the government school premises are expected to supply purified water to the residents. It will be inaugurated on Friday.

The purification unit is donated by Bidar-based doctor-couple Yogesh and Swati Kamashetty, District Disease Surveillance Officer M.A Jabbar said at Karanji-B village on Thursday.

He said that a team of doctors from the district hospital conducted a free medical camp where 451 persons were screened.

The zilla panchayat is trying to build toilets for every household in the village to make it open-defecation free, Goutham Arali, Swach Bharath Mission coordinator, said.
