A two-day Comprehensive Rehabilitation Camp for persons with disabilities from Mysore district began here on Tuesday.
The camp is being held at the Government School for the Blind and the Government School for Deaf and Dumb on New Bamboo Bazaar Road at Tilak Nagar.
Deputy Commissioner P.S. Vastrad, who inaugurated the camp, appealed to persons with disabilities to make use of the opportunity.
Mr. Vastrad thanked specialists from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi, and other cities for coming to Mysore to assess the condition of differently abled persons, following which they will be provided suitable aids and appliances.
He said that local officers would be present to address problems faced by beneficiaries.
Team of specialists
A team of specialists, led by G. Pandian from the Deendayal institute, is conducting the camp under a scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The district administration, Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, District Disabled Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), and Indian Red Cross Society, Mysore, have extended support.
Differently abled persons can also take part in the camp on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
District Disabled Welfare Officer H.S. Keshavamurthy, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Mysore, D.S. Vidyashankar, and officers from the DDRC were present.
