Two elephants appeared near the Aynora Hosahalli tank, four kilometres from Bangarpet town on Friday.

The forest and police personnel are making efforts to ensure that the elephants did not enter residential areas, and also drive them back into the forests.

The two animals reportedly entered the area from Krishnagiri forest areas in Tamil Nadu.

The greenery of eucalyptus plantations and the jowar crops in the fields and plants might have attracted the elephants, Range Forest Officer (Bangarpet) Chandrashekhar Reddy told The Hindu . The elephants, both male, are said to be peaceful.

A large number of people gathered at the tank to watch the elephants.

Forest and police personnel led by DFO C. Mune Gowda are camping in the area to ensure that the pachyderms did cause harm to human beings.

They also appealed to the people not to disturb the elephants.
