Assistant Conservator of Forests Narasimhaiah says that an operation has been launched to drive the animals back to the forest.

Two elephants were sighted at Lalanakere near Bellur in Nagamangala taluk in the district on Wednesday.

According to the forest and police officials, the animals were sighted at a farm of the former MLA L.R. Shivarame Gowda.

Some agricultural labourers noticed the elephants and informed the Forest Department. According to the forest officials, the elephants might have got separated from a herd in Channarayapatna Forest areas in Hassan district and entered Lalanakere.

The Forest Department has launched an operation to drive the elephants back to the forest, said Narasimhaiah, Assistant Conservator of Forests (Nagamangala).
