An inquiry into the ‘parking’ of government funds in banks has unearthed two more bank accounts where Rs. 97 crore have been kept.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil said a preliminary inquiry had revealed two accounts, one each in Corporation Bank and SyndicateBank.

“While Rs. 31 crore had been ‘parked’ in Corporation Bank, Rs. 66 crore has been parked in SyndicateBank,” he said.

Mr. Patil said the recent case of a government official depositing Rs. 134 crore of government funds in Andhra Bank had forced him to look for similar cases in banks.

“The initial inquiry has led to the unearthing of two accounts. We don’t yet know how many more such accounts are there,” he said.

Mr. Patil said a four-member committee had been constituted to inquire into such cases in the RDPR Department and constituent government agencies.

“The committee has been asked to submit a report within a month,” Mr. Patil said.
