Tributes paid to Ambedkar across Karnataka

The 124th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar on Tuesday was observed with traditional fervour in the state, by leaders across political parties.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid rich tributes to the Dalit leader garlanding the statue at the State Secretariat. Later in the evening, he presented Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Award instituted by the State government to former MLA and retired teacher S.S. Arakeri.

At the State Congress office, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara and other leaders paid floral tributes to the leader. Mr. Parameshwara urged the Government to fill backlog posts in various departments.

On the occasion, Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya ruled out beef ban in the State and said many people had been consuming non-vegetarian food these days.

Interestingly, activist of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi distributed beef biryani to the people. Activists found distributing carried biryani in a vehicle and distributed to the people at the Freedom Park.

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister, M.V. Rajasekharan has urged the Chief Minister to induct Mr. Parameshwara into the State Cabinet as the Deputy Chief Minister.

An exhibition showcasing books on the ‘Ambedkar literature’, including autobiography and biographies attracted many visitors during the day in Belagavi.

This was followed by a long cultural procession wherein dozens of dalit organisations named after Dr. Ambedkar participated. Several folk troupes from different parts of the district also formed part of the procession.

Processions and functions marked the 124th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar in Kolar district on Tuesday. Ambedkar statues were garlanded by dignitaries and functionaries of various organisations throughout the district.
