A 31-year-old trekker, Amin Kittur of Belagavi, passed away at Chirbasa, 9 km from Gangotri, after taking ill while trekking to the mountain peak on Thursday evening. He died due to high altitude sickness while trekking.

The news of his death was learnt by his friends and some of the fellow trekkers who were with the deceased’s earlier trekking missions, when a fellow trekker Cheran Shree posted a tribute: “Who is going to plan our Himalaya trek… who will motivate me during the trek… who will be my tent mate… who can throw roof- top parties. Can’t believe you are no more big guy... miss you to the core. RIP Amin Kittur… The Mountain Man.”

Amin Kittur, who grew up in Belagavi, was a student of St. Mary’s High School and R.L. Science Institute in the city. He was an adventure enthusiast since young and had received the Best NCC Cadet award from the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the occasion of Republic Day Parade at New Delhi.

His friends tweeted that Amin Kittur was an escalation manager at Hewlett-Packard in Bengaluru.

His father rushed to Dehradun, where Amin Kittur’s body was expected to arrive in the afternoon, sources said.
