Tahsildar Vijayanna exhorted to remove the caste barriers and treat the Dalits as the brothers and sisters.
He was speaking at ‘Dalitara maneyalli bhojana’ programme organised by Dalitara Grihapravesha Rajya Samiti at Marjenahalli in Kolar taluk on Sunday.
He took lunch at the house of Sriram, a Dalit of the village. “People of all the castes should take food in Dalits’ houses. The taluk administration will support such programmes,” he said.
He expressed regret that the untouchability still prevails in spite of laws to eradicate it. The Samiti is conducting many activities to create awareness against the scourge, its leader G. Shivappa said.
