The Karnataka unit of Swaraj India on Tuesday released its first list of six candidates for the May 12 Assembly polls.

The list comprises names of Darshan Puttannaiah (Melkote), Linge Gowda S.H. (Maddur), Vaijanath Patil (Yadgir), Ramesh Chandra (Mahadevapura), K.P. Bhootayya (Challakere), and Shylendra (Hanur). The list was announced in the presence of party’s national president Yogendra Yadav and member of the national executive committee of Swaraj India Devanur Mahadeva.

Addressing a convention of workers, Mr. Mahadeva criticised the corruption in public life, especially in politics, and underlined the need to cleanse it. For Swaraj India, politics means constructive work, creation of new ideas, and fighting electoral battle for protecting values of democracy, he said.

Mr. Yadav said democracy, diversity and development models were under attack and there was not a single political force that can take on this challenge.

Stressing the need for alternative politics to save the country, Mr. Yadav said: “Swaraj India is here to bring a change in the country and the process will commence from Karnataka, as the State unit is a perfect amalgamation of farmers, Dalits and anti-corruption movements.”
