Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah met Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Monday evening, but told presspersons waiting outside Raj Bhavan that his 40-meeting was a courtesy call and that he did not discuss any political issues, including the issue of resignation of Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs with the Governor.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the MLAs were going to meet Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah to submit their resignations and urged him to accept them if they were in order. He urged him not to give any credence to the petition submitted by BJP MLA Belur Gopalakrishna against the MLAs, who wanted to resign.
Asked whether he was going to move a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in the Assembly when it meets on February 4, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that he may do it if it was necessary.
But, Mr. Siddaramaiah added that his party did not enjoy sufficient numbers to move such a motion and it depends on what steps the Janata Dal (Secular) would take on the issue during the session.
