Seers of 35 maths in the State have come out in favour of president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee G. Parameshwara becoming the next Chief Minister and Basavamurthy Madara Chennaiah Swami of Madara Guru Peetha, Chitradurga, even warned the Congress that it may have to face adverse results in the Lok Sabha elections if Dr. Parameshwara is not made Chief Minister.
The seers and Christian and Islamic leaders came to Dr. Parameshwara’s residence here on Monday to bless him on his 63rd birthday.
Basavamurthy Madara Chennaiah Swami said that Dr. Parameshwara, a Dalit leader, should be made Chief Minister before the Lok Sabha elections.
He said that the Congress high command should recognise the contribution made by Dr. Parameshwara in bringing the party to power in the State.
Junior seer of Siddaganga Math Siddalingaswamy said that the Congress had come to power because of the hard work of Dr. Parameshwara.
Siddalingaswamy said that notwithstanding his defeat in the Assembly elections, Dr. Parameshwara had brought the Congress to power in the State. He said that the seers had all come to give moral support to the Dalit leader.
Another seer Shanthaveera Swami said that the State government had kept the seers at a distance and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had made fun of the Guruparampara saying that they had not submitted applications seeking financial assistance from the government.
He said that they had tried a hundred times to get an appointment to meet Mr. Siddaramaiah but he had not accommodated their request. He said that the Chief Minister should understand that he could not achieve anything without the support of the seers. He said that there was no need for them to go to the government for funds.
Stating that he was happy to have received the support of the seers and the religious leaders, Dr. Parameshwara said that he would work for the uplift of the poor.
