Shruthi, the 21-year-old girl from Lakkavalli village in Chikkamagaluru district, who sustained injuries recently during scuba diving in the U.S. and subsequently slipped into coma, died on Monday.

The victim was married to Seetharamakrishna, a software engineer from Vijayawada, who was working in California. The incident took place when the couple went to Hawaii island for a holiday on June 30.

Following the mishap, she was admitted to Maui Memorial Medical Centre in Sunnyvale. Karthik, the brother of the victim, has said that water had gushed to her brain causing damage to the cells. She failed to respond to treatment.

The family has decided to donate her organs. The cremation will be held in California.

Karthik and his mother had flown to the U.S. to look after her.
