The Shivamogga-Bhadravati Urban Development Authority (SBUDA) has commenced a demand survey for its plan to build apartments in the city for the houseless families from middle and low income groups. SBUDA had earlier announced that it would construct apartments on a 1.09 acre land that it owns in Sominakoppa locality and on a 9.04 acre land in Urgadur locality. It has been planned to construct around 100 flats in Sominakoppa and 600 flats in Urgadur.
N. Ramesh, Chairperson of SBUDA told The Hindu that 1 BHK houses would be priced at Rs. 10 lakh, 2 BHK houses at Rs. 15 lakh and 3 BHK house would be offered at the price of around Rs. 25 lakh. The project will be executed on no-profit-no-loss basis, he said.
The authority was earlier involved in developing residential layouts and allotting sites there to the people at affordable prices.
Mr. Ramesh said that, if SBUDA decided to allot sites at its land in Sominakoppa and Urgadur, around 200 people would benefit. However, the number of beneficiaries would be around 700 from the apartment project.
May 15 is the last date to apply to take part in the survey.
