Several eminent personalities, politicians, writers and various organisations have mourned the demise of the former Union Minister and multi-lingual scholar Sarojini Mahishi, who passed away in New Delhi on Sunday.
In a press release issued here, Patil Puttappa, president of the Karnatak Vidyavardhak Sangha termed her demise as an irreparable loss to Karnataka.
“The State has lost a leader who was fighting for the cause of the Kannada language and Kannadigas since decades,” he said.
Ms. Sarojini was not only a politician and a social worker, but also a scholar and good human being, he added.
The former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar termed her demise as great loss to Karnataka. Recalling her contribution as a politician and writer, Mr. Shettar said that Ms. Mahishi always stood for the cause of Kannada and Kannadigas.
In his condolence message, president of Delhi Karnataka Sangha Vasanth Shetty Bellare said that Sarojini Mahishi was instrumental in floating the sangha in Delhi and helping Kanandigas.
Mr. Bellare said that the mortal remains of the late leader would be brought to Delhi Karnataka Sangha on January 26 for people to pay their last respects.
At the All India Fifth ‘Horanadu Kannada Sanghagala Mahamela’ being held at New Delhi, a two-minute silence was observed to pay respects to the late leader.
The Karnataka Rajya Swaicchika Hindi Vidyalaya Sangha of Hubballi held a condolence meeting on Sunday.
