The police have imposed restrictions on plying of vehicles across the border between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in Chamarajanagar district in the light of the Supreme Court verdict on the Cauvery dispute.

“We are not allowing KSRTC buses to enter Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation buses to enter Karnataka”, Dharmender Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Chamarajanagar district police, told The Hindu over phone.

As a precautionary measure, the police have also advised trucks bearing Tamil Nadu registration number plates to park their vehicles in a safe place.

“Though private vehicles were also not being allowed on Saturday, we have relaxed the restriction from 11 a.m. after the Supreme Court verdict was delivered”, he said.

However, Tamil Nadu vehicles on emergency duty including ambulances were not only allowed to cross the border, but also given police protection till their destination, he added.
