The Railway Horata Samiti has said that none of the four new trains via Vijayapura promised in the last Railway Budget have been introduced so far.

In a release here on Friday, Vishwanath Bhavi, president of the samiti, said that the trains announced were a semi-speed train Tejas; Hamsafar; Uday and a reservation-free train. He said that they were supposed to ply between Solapur, Vijayapura and Hubballi.

Though the work on a broad gauge line between Solapur, Vijayapura and Gadag was completed in 1992-93, super fast trains such as Garib Rath, Duranto, Karnataka Samparka Kranti and Rajdhani run from Vijayapura. The release said that the gauge was never upgraded to ply high-speed trains on them, and added that the substandard work by the contractors was the reason behind it. He said that because of this, the Railways was unable to ply high-speed trains covering Vijayapura.
