Former Mayor of Belagavi City Corporation Kiran Sayanak has strongly opposed the proposal to open a wine shop at Angol Naka under Tilakwadi police station limits. He staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday. Members of Sri Gurudutt Seva Trust were also present.

Pointing out that the Department of Excise was likely to consider the proposal, he said the site was near a public bus shelter and close to M.V. Herwadkar English Medium School, Tilakwadi High School, Swadhyaya Vidya Mandir, G.G. Chitnis English Medium High School and a temple of Lord Ganesha.

The shop would lead to nuisance value in this area, he said and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner requesting a direction to the Excise Department officials against granting permission for opening of the wine shop.
