Surya P. Sethi, former principal advisor (power and energy) and core climate negotiator, Government of India, on Friday said that no one should be under the impression that India has reserves of coal and natural resources.

He was speaking after inaugurating an international conference on Global Challenges, Policy Framework and Sustainable Development for Mining of Minerals and Fossil Energy Resources, organised by National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal, near here.

Mr. Sethi said the reserves are very limited and hence there should not be an impression that in future the energy costs would drastically reduce.

The two-day conference would deliberate upon the need for comprehensive and coordinated approach to satisfy the energy demand and address environment concerns adequately.

NIT-K Director, Swapan Bhattacharya urged the participants to deliberate upon the issues in detail and come out with a solution acceptable to all. “While animals adjust to the environment, humans adjust environment for themselves,” he remarked.

Retired Managing Director of MRPL, P.P. Upadhyay and others were present.
