Music critic Sadanand Kanavalli passes away

Music critic and writer Sadanand Kanavalli (80) died at a private hospital here on Friday.

He was ill for the last few years and had been admitted to hospital a few days ago. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He played a key role in promoting cultural activities here. He has authored books, including the biography of Bhimsen Joshi. He also has written on Mallikarjun Mansur, Basavaraj Rajguru, and Gangubai Hangal. He has served as the principal of the Municipal College of Lakshmeshwar and the director of the Karnatak University Prasaranga.

Kanavalli’s body has donated to a private medical college as per his wish. Scores of people paid their last respect at his residence here on Saturday.
