MLA Rameshkumar criticises panchayat development officers

The former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Srinivasapur MLA K.R. Rameshkumar on Thursday criticised government officials and Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) for lack of diligence in executing works.

Participating in a meeting to review the drinking water situation in the district, Mr. Kumar asked Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra to send PDOs, who lacked a humanitarian approach towards people’s woes to, jail.

This is not the first time he has made such controversial statements. Mr. Kumar came in for criticism some time ago for asking the villagers to

“tie down and beat up” Bescom personnel if they failed to work properly in rural areas.

Officials fail to utilise grants to the tune of crores of rupees which the legislators get released from the government, he said, a view endorsed by Malur MLA K.S. Manjunath as well.

MLAs Y. Ramakka (KGF), G. Manjunath (Mulbagal), ZP president Rathnamma, and Chief Executive Officer N.M. Panali participated.

Additional funds

The drinking water situation was aggravated in 288 villages of the district. Water is being supplied through tankers in 214 villages and through private tube wells in 74 places. Additional funds of Rs. 50 lakh each is being released to every taluk exclusively for drinking water in view of drought.
