Mehfouz Ali Khan, jailed mining baron G. Janardhan Reddy’s personal assistant, has sought special facilities in the Bangalore Central Prison where he is lodged.

In a petition to the CBI court here, he quoted a provision from the AP prisons manual that allows certain undertrial prisoners luxuries such as a separate cell, separate kitchenette or food from home, and a cot with a mattress.

Speaking to The Hindu over telephone from Hyderabad, a legal expert said the provision was reserved for Income Tax assesses. Ramalinga Raju, who was incarcerated in connection with the Satyam scam, was allowed these facilities under this provision.

The CBI Bangalore filed their objections on Tuesday. Their principal objection was that the AP manual could not be a reference point for cases that were being heard in Karnataka with respect to prisoners who were imprisoned in the State.
