K.S. Rangappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) and University of Mysore on Wednesday sought a detailed probe into the alleged KSOU fake marks card scam to bring all those behind the racket to book.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Rangappa, who was heading the KSOU for four years as its V-C, maintained that marks cards had been issued to only those students who had been legitimately enrolled to various courses, during his tenure. He was not responsible if marks cards had been printed and distributed illegitimately beyond the students’ enrolment.
Whoever is involved in the racket should be brought to book, he said.
Mr. Rangappa said he was ready to face any probe over the affairs of KSOU stating that he had not deviated from the KSOU Act and took the consent of the Board of Management, the Finance Committee, and other constitutional bodies while implementing any decision.
“I should not be held accountable if someone fakes the marks card. The law should uncover such persons and punish them. I had acted in one such instance where I removed two people from KSOU following allegations of fake marks cards,” he added.
While demanding that the fake marks cards scam should be probed comprehensively, Mr. Rangappa said the Central Crime Branch (CCB) was probing the case. “Let any investigation agency probe the matter and I am ready to face any inquiry although my tenure as the V-C was done five years ago,” he said.
He also denied any wrongdoing in introducing the degree bridge course equivalent to 12th Arts at the KSOU for untaught persons and said the Act had a provision to run such courses for those who lacked schooling. “The course was modelled on the lines of one run by IGNOU,” he said.
