A 25-year-old man made an attempt to commit suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s residence here on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Basavaraj, a native of Dadedevanahalli in Chitradurga district, had come to meet the Chief Minister seeking help for medical treatment.
The security staff sent him away stating that the Chief Minister cannot meet him as it was a Sunday. Later, Basavaraj sat on the footpath in front of the Chief Minister’s residence and started eating sleeping tablets. The police later recovered two empty strips of 10 tablets each from him.
He was immediately rushed in an autorickshaw to Mallige hospital, where he is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. Basavaraj’s condition is critical, it is said.
The police have recovered from Basavaraj a four-page letter addressed to the Chief Minister.
In the letter, Basavaraj has said that he was suffering from serious health problems since 2003 and had spent lakhs of rupees for treatment and was heavily indebted. “Despite spending money, his health condition had deteriorated and doctors are not able to tell me what exactly the problem is,” he said.
“I do not want money or property, I need good treatment, save my life or else I am going to donate my kidneys and body…,” he said. Basavaraj has also requested Mr. Siddaramaiah to ensure capital punishment for rape convicts and externment of corrupt people. “Abolish child labour, dowry system and child marriage. Illegal mining and sand mining should be stopped and the State government should waive farmer loans,” the letter said.
The High Grounds police have taken up a caseagainst Basavaraj.
