The Lokayukta on Thursday carried out simultaneous raids on seven officials of various government departments in the State and unearthed assets, in all, worth Rs 7.5 crore disproportionate to known sources of income.
Additional Director-General of Police, Lokayukta, H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao said that 21 premises belonging to the officials were raided in Bangalore, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Bidar, Chitradurga and Gulbarga districts and illegal assets unearthed. Cases under Prevention of Corruption have been booked against them.
The officials are Balappa Byrappa Athani, Head Accountant, District Treasury, Bagalkot, now on official duty (OOD) serving as Personal Secretary to Minister for Information Technology and Bio-Technology S.R. Patil, salary Rs. 84 lakh and assets Rs. 1.61 crore; H.V. Omkaramurthy, Development Officer of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), Bangalore, salary Rs. 80 lakh and assets Rs. 1.61 crore; Gopinath Nagendrasa Malagi, project director, Nirmiti Kendra, Bijapur, salary Rs. 60 lakh and assets Rs. 2.35 crore; Shyam Sangappa Savalagi, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Bidar, salary Rs. 75 lakh and assets Rs. 1.7 crore; Sevya Naik, Executive Engineer, Upper Bhadra Project, Chitradurga, salary Rs. 56 lakh and assets Rs. 1.5 crore; Siddanna R. Patil, Junior Health Assistant, Gulbarga, salary Rs. 40 lakh and assets Rs. 1.3 crore; T. Mallanna, Executive Engineer, Karnataka Housing Board, Gulbarga, salary Rs. 40 lakh and assets Rs. 1.04 crore.
