Work on widening the stretch of Irwin Road between Ayurvedic College Circle and Nehru Circle will be taken up only after the land acquisition is completed.
Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath told The Hindu that MCC has taken up development of two stretches of Irwin Road — the one between Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle (in front of the city railway station) and Ayurvedic College Circle, and the one from Nehru Circle to the suburban bus stand (Arch Gate). But the stretch between Ayurvedic College Circle and Nehru Circle has not been widened as land acquisition is still pending there, he said. “We have sent a proposal for acquisition of land to widen the road on this stretch to the Deputy Commissioner’s office,” he said.
Mr. Betsurmath said MCC has estimated Rs. 14 crore as the cost of land acquisition on this stretch.
Meanwhile, he said development of the remaining stretches has picked up pace. The authorities are widening the road and constructing proper drainage and road dividers, besides erecting heritage lamp posts.
