Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha protested in front of the residence of Bhagwant Khuba, MP, demanding that the Union government withdraw the land acquisition ordinance.
They shouted slogans against the Centre for bringing out an “anti-farmer ordinance”.
“It makes land an easily tradable commodity. It does not look at land as a national asset that needs to be preserved for food security and bio diversity. This clearly exposes the pro-corporate mindset of the government,” they said.
Vishwanath Patil Koutha, sangha president, said that the Union government had no moral right to claim that it was a pro-farmer or a pro-poor government.
He said the government came to power taking the votes of farmers, only to betray them.
Veerabhushan Nandagave, leader, took objection to the BJP campaign slogan “achhe din aane waale hain”.
“It is not for the Prime Minister to declare that. Farmers will decide if good days are here or not,” he said.
He reminded Mr. Modi that mere speeches would not make a difference in the lives of poor farmers.
“He had to act in the right direction if he really meant well. But by the decisions taken after coming to power, Mr. Modi does not seem to be a friend of farmers,” he said.
Leaders like Suresh Janashetty, Srimanth Biradar and others were present.
