: Five days after obtaining anticipatory bail, Karthik Gowda, son of Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, denied allegations of rape and kidnapping made against him by a Kannada film actor.

Appearing before the police for questioning on Friday, Karthik Gowda, who was accompanied by his advocates, stated that he knew the complainant only as an acquaintance, but had neither married nor cheated her as claimed, police sources said.

Karthik Gowda, sources said, told the police that the complainant was introduced to him through common friends and they had met couple of times at parties. As friends they had telephonic conversations, which had been recorded by the complainant with ulterior motives. Charges against him were staged managed with an intention to tarnish his father’s image, he said in his statement.

Karthik Gowda, who was questioned by officials at the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s (North) office for nearly an hour, was told that he would be summoned again for further investigation. After questioning, he was sent to the Dr. Ambedkar Medical College to undergo a medical test.

“Karthik Gowda’s statement is going to be corroborated with the evidence provided by the victim and if need be, we will summon him for questioning again,” a senior police officer said. The medical report is expected in a day, the police said.
