Coconut growers were excited to see a machine that dehusks 1,500 to 2,500 coconuts per hour at the International Krishi Mela, being organised by the University of Agricultural Sciences-Bangalore. The machine, manufactured by a Coimbatore-based company, has a motor with a capacity ranging from 1 HP to 5 HP depending upon the required deshusking speed. The advantage is that the machine is compact and can he used in narrow spaces also.
The cost varies from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh.
