There’s some good news for those who need support to pursue sports as a career in Bangalore. Malleswaram Sports Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, which will be launched soon aims to do just that.

The foundation has been established by a group led by C.N. Ashwath Narayan, MLA representing Malleswaram and senior vice-president of the Karnataka State Athletics Association.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Dr. Ashwath Narayan said that the Malleswaram Sports Foundation, which will be launched on October 19 noon, intends to promote “inclusive sports”.The foundation will have tie-ups with government sports agencies, private sports clubs as well as schools. “In schools, we will help identify talent and support them and also help find physical trainers for schools,” Dr. Ashwath Narayan said. He added that there will be no membership or fee, but they will maintain a list of volunteers so that they can be referred to institutions that need them.

The foundation has already scheduled a mini marathon for January 27, 2013. “We will start running clubs to train those who wish to participate in the marathon,” the MLA said, adding that the foundation will also focus on creating awareness about the existing sports initiatives. “The foundation is open to supporting not just those from Malleswaram, but also from across the city,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok is scheduled to inaugurate the foundation. Paralympic silver medalist H.N. Girisha will be felicitated.
