Heart surgeon Devi Shetty on Saturday said that healthcare will soon be delivered online.

Speaking to reporters at the inauguration of Narayana Health’s tech-enabled Smart Clinic, Dr. Shetty said the Centre was formulating a code of ethics to streamline online delivery of medical services.

Stating that there was a need to put in place a system of digital signatures and identify a suitable platform for communication between patients and doctors, he said protecting the confidentiality of patient data was also of paramount importance. “IT in medical care will be next big thing,” he remarked.

Medical services like consultation for diabetes had gone online.

Patients can check their blood sugar level and blood pressure and communicate with their doctors for advice, he said.

He appealed to the medical fraternity to embrace the technological changes to be ushered into the field of healthcare.

Earlier, inaugurating the Smart Clinic donated by him, Infosys co-founder K. Dinesh said healthcare should be brought to the doorstep of patients with the help of “disruptive innovations”.

The clinic located on Vinobha Road will offer free registration and consultation in core specialities such as cardiac, gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, orthopaedics and paediatrics apart from general medicine.
