Mandya Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan on Tuesday suspended five officers working with the city municipal council (CMC) for the alleged delay in providing service under the ‘Sakala’ scheme and dereliction of duties.
Mr. Nagabhushan also ordered a departmental inquiry against the suspended personnel. The suspended personnel are: Revenue Inspectors V. Govindaiah and Shivaswamy and second division assistants G. Alamelamma, M.C. Keshava and B.E. Rajakumar. The three second division assistants are the case workers attached to khata transfer division. All the five personnel were not providing services to the people within the stipulated time-frame under the Karnataka Guarantee of Services to Citizens Act, 2011, popularly known as ‘Sakala’, municipal Commissioner N.M. Shashikumar said. The suspended personnel were allegedly keeping the files pending, besides refusing to issue endorsements to public while receiving the applications under ‘Sakala’. Following complaints against them that there were discrepancies in the implementation of Sakala in the the Revenue Department, the CMC conducted an internal inquiry, recently. Speaking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, Mr. Shashikumar said, “We had discussed the issue in four or five meetings and also served notices to the suspended personnel.”
As there was no sign of improvement in their performance, the CMC had recently submitted a proposal to the Deputy Commissioner, seeking disciplinary action against the five personnel. The Deputy Commissioner placed the Revenue personnel under suspension on Tuesday, based on the proposal, he said. The CMC will soon constitute a team of senior officials to inquire into the issue. Meanwhile, the municipal councillors have welcomed the move by saying that such stern action would help implement various schemes.
