Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took a bus from the Sambra Airport to the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi as part of NWKRTC’s Bus Day celebrations on Monday evening.
He paid for his ticket fair and the conductor returned the change with a ticket.
Earlier, in the morning, Transport Minister H.M. Revanna inaugurated Bus Day, to encourage more people to use public transport in Belagavi.
He rode on a city bus from the Central Bus Stand to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and travelled some distance.
He was accompanied by Heavy Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande, MLA Ashok Pattan, Sadanand Danganavar, NWKRTC Chairman, and the transport corporation officials. Before boarding the bus, he urged residents to use public transportation to reduce carbon footprint and to save valuable foreign exchange for the country.
The highlight of the celebration was when Food Minister U.T. Khader took a bus ride from Mangaluru to Belagavi. He arrived for the legislature session at the Suvarna Soudha by bus from Mangaluru, Ganesh Rathod, NWKRTC divisional controller, said.
