Residents of Kakkeharavu and Doddapur villages in Chitradurga taluk took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday urging the district administration to stop the sale of liquor in general stores and other petty shops in their villages.

The protesters took out a procession from Dr. B.R. Ambekar Circle, which culminated outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The residents alleged that the members of backward communities and those from poor families were spoiling their health by consuming liquor from these shops. There were instances of people harassing children, women and senior citizens after consuming liquor.
