A cricket ground with turf wicket built by a private education institute in Hassan, in association with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), will be inaugurated on Saturday.
P.R. Ashok Anand, chairman of KSCA; Brijesh Patel, secretary; and cricketers K.L. Rahul, and Dodda Ganesh will take part in the inauguration programme.
H.K.S. International School constructed the grounds at a cost of Rs. 4.8 crore on their campus near Hassan on Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway. Hullahalli Suresh, head of the institute, said that the ground was initially planned for students of the institution.
“Office-bearers of the Hassan Cricketers’ Association approached the institution to involve the organisation also. As much as Rs. 3 crore has been spent for the pitch and another Rs. 1.8 crore has been spent to construct the pavilion,” he said.
M.S. Suresh Kumar, president of Hassan Cricketers’ Association, said only a few cities in Karnataka had well-built cricket grounds with turf wickets. Hassan has also joined the list of such cities with the efforts of HKS Institute, he added.
