Janata Dal(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi has no moral right to speak about corruption as the UPA government at the Centre was embroiled in several scams.
Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that both the Congress and the BJP had lost the moral right to speak on corruption as their partymen had allegedly siphoned off public money by indulging in various scams.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that throughout her speech in Mangalore on Thursday, Ms. Sonia Gandhi had spoken only about the BJP’s “involvement in corruption”, while asking her partymen to bury “their differences” and make efforts to come to back to power in the State.
He said that her speech had revealed that the Congress was not concerned about the drought in Karnataka and that it was only focussing on coming back to power.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that Ms. Sonia Gandhi had not revealed on what issues the Congress would be fighting the election.
“The UPA chairperson wants to face the election not on any issue, but by encashing on the bickering among her party’s opponents,” Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
‘Not welcome’
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that beneficiaries of the BJP’s “Operation Lotus” would not be allowed back into the party.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that beneficiaries of “Operation Lotus”, however influential they might be, would not be allowed to return to the Janata Dal(S) even if they wanted to return to the party voluntarily.
He said that the Janata Dal(S) would not join hands with any political party to form a government as it was capable of coming to power in the State based on its strength and people’s support.
On the allegation that the Janata Dal(S) had entered into an “understanding” with the Jagadish Shettar government, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that at times of crisis both the Congress and the BJP had made such allegations against his party.
